    Sahibganj is situated in the bank of Mother Ganga and lap of Rajmahal , holds a very special place due to its glorious past. The historic Rajmahal Hills of the Jurassic era form the southern boundary of this district. These hills are home to one of the rarest tribes of India like Sauria Pahadia, Maisa Pahadia etc.

    Bhognadih, the birthplace of immortal freedom fighters Siddho and Kanho, is also located in this district. Its subdivisional headquarter Rajmahal has its own golden history. Its historical connection goes back to Mughal emperor Akbar and Raja Man Singh. Later it remained the capital of undivided Bengal, Bihar and Orissa province for a long time. Sindhi-Dalan, Kanhaiya-Asthan, Akbari Masjid, Barahdwari, Teliagarhi and Fossil Park are some of the historical and tourist places of this district.

    Sahibganj is situated on the Jamalpur Howrah Railway Loopline, which is said to be the second oldest railway line in India. Bhagalpur is a famous city of Bihar which is 75 km far. In the west of this district Sahibganj Judgeship was inaugurated on May 1, 1993. Earlier it was a sub-divisional headquarters of Dumka Judgeship. The first incumbent of the post of District and Sessions Judge (now known as Principal District and Sessions Judge) was Mohammad S.M. I.I.F Alam.

    Brief description of the district including famous places, monuments, tourist places, places of historical importance etc.:

    Sahibganj district is situated in the lap of Rajmahal Hills and on the banks of the holy river Ganga. Sahibganj as a district was separated from Dumka district in the year 1983. It consists of nine blocks, namely Sahibganj, Mandro, Borio, Barhet, Taljhari, Rajmahal, Udhwa, Pathana and Barharwa.

    Famous places and tourist places:

    Fossil Park, Mandro Fossil Park, Mandro is one of the world famous geological heritage in Mandro Block.

    Motijharna Fall: The natural beauty of the waterfall is very fascinating.

    Shivgadi Temple: Ancient temple of Lord Shiva within a cave in the Rajmahal hills.

    Bindhyavashini Temple: Ancient temple of Shaktipith in Barharwa. A large number of devotees gather there during Ram-Navami.

    Udhwa Bird Sanctuary is the only bird sanctuary in the state of Jharkhand. Every year a large number of migratory birds come from Europe and Siberia during the winter season.

    Sahibganj Multi Model Terminal- It is a river port located on the bank of Ganga at Sakrigali, about 10 km from Sahibganj.

    Monuments and places of historical importance:

    Bhognadih and Panchkathiya: The birth place of the great brothers Siddho-Kanho who led the first Santhal Kranti in the year 1855 is a very sacred place for the tribals. Panchkathiya is the place where these brothers were hanged by the British.

    Kanhaiyasthan: It is named after the temple of Lord Krishna (Kanhaiya). It is believed that Chaitanya Mahaprabhu once stayed here while going from Bagal to Brindavan and got the darshan of Lord Krishna. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s Charan Paduka is also preserved here.

    Akbari Mosque: This is one of the oldest mosques of India built during the period of Akbar. It is believed that the first Namaz was offered here by the great Mughal emperor Akbar.

    Jami Masjid was built by Raja Man Singh Rajput, the Governor of Bengal in the late 16th century.

    Barah Dwari is also known as Nageshwar Bagh. Some scholars give the credit for this to Raja Man Singh’s rival Fateh Jung Khan.

    Brief history of Sahibganj judgship (including sub-district palace)

    Sahibganj Judgeship was inaugurated by Hon’ble Justice Shri Vimal Chandra Basak under the chairmanship of hon’ble Justice Shri G.C.Bharuka of Hon’ble Patna High Court on 01.05.1993. Earlier, this was a sub-divisional Court of Dumka Judgeship. Earlier, the Sahibganj Judgeship included two sub-divisions namely Pakur and Rajmahal. In June 2001, Pakur Judgeship was separated from Sahibganj Judgeship.

    The Civil Court, Sahibganj has three court buildings and the Sub-Divisional Court, Rajmahal has one court building.

    The Primary Health Center was inaugurated by Hon’ble Justice Shri Rajesh Kumar, Administrative Judge, Hon’ble High Court of Jharkhand, Ranchi on 18.04.2019 in the premises of Civil Court Sahibganj. Solar power divisions are installed and functional at Civil Court, Sahibganj and Rajmahal.

    Sulabh Shouchalay and other community toilets have been constructed within the court premises. The Court is equipped with centralized filing facility for filing new cases. A separate waiting room has been provided for female deponents/litigants.

    Civil Court, Sahibganj has three court buildings where in the first building there are 12 Courts. The second building is consists of the court of the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Administrative office, Nazarat, Accounts office and Copying department. The third building is the erstwhile Fast Track Court building which currently houses the Family Court, Permanent Lok Adalat, D.L.S.A. There is also a Court’s Complex which accommodates all the 12 courts of the Sub-divisional Court Rajmahal .

    Civil Court Sahibganj is equipped with centralized filing Center for filing new cases with effect from 01.02.2013.
